Medieval literature stuck to a number of conventions. The literature normally was Didactic, and very clearly expressed it’s moral. Stock characters that are clearly praised or blamed are present in most Medieval literature. Chaucer is an example of literature moving away from these conventions with rounder characters and a theme that is more open to interpretation.
