Teaches a lesson. In the Medieval West this lesson was very clear and not open to interpretation. For example, the play Everyman teaches a number of clear, religious lessons to its watchers. These lessons include a reminder that life is transitory, pride causes our downfall, and life and goods are only on loan to us.
